Quinlan received Best Supporting Actress nominations from both the Academy Awards and Golden Globes for her touching, heartfelt portrayal of Marilyn Lovell, the wife of astronaut Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks) in Ron Howard's box-office smash, "Apollo 13." Her other feature film credits include "A Civil Action" with John Travolta, "Breakdown" with Kurt Russell, "My Giant" with Billy Crystal, "Event Horizon," "Lawn Dogs," "The Doors" with Val Kilmer, "Trial By Jury" with Joanne Whalley-Kilmer, "Clara's Heart" with Whoopi Goldberg, "Twilight Zone: The Movie," "Independence Day," "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden," "Airport '77," "Lifeguard" and "American Graffiti" with Ron Howard and Cindy Williams. On the small screen, her credits include Lifetime's critically acclaimed "Stolen Children," USA's "Trapped," the HBO films "Dreams Lost and Found" and "Blackout," "American Story," "When She Says No" and "Children of the Night." Quinlan received a Theater World Award in 1978 for her performance in Joseph Papp's Public Theater production of "Taken in Marriage." Other stage credits include "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles and "Uncommon Women and Others." An ocean enthusiast, Quinlan was born in Pasadena, Calif. and raised in Mill Valley, California where she trained as a diver and a gymnast before beginning her acting career. Quinlan, her husband, actor Bruce Abbott, and son reside in Malibu, Calif.
