| | | Veteran actor Rick Schroder has joined the cast of the Sony Pictures Television series STRONG MEDICINE. Schroder takes on the role of Dylan West, a new doctor at Rittenhouse whose past indiscretions have made moving forward difficult.
Schroder has achieved 30 years of success in the industry and has managed to transition from child star to seasoned adult actor.
Born in 1970 in Brooklyn, New York, he started modeling and doing commercials while still in diapers. By the time Schroder was cast in “The Champ” at age 8, he had 60 TV commercials and hundreds of print ads under his belt. In 1979, he became one of the youngest recipients to receive a Golden Globe for his performance opposite Jon Voight and Faye Dunaway in “The Champ.” His success catapulted him to child stardom going on to work with industry greats like William Holden (“The Earthling”) and Sir Alec Guinness (“Little Lord Fauntleroy”).
When Schroder was twelve he signed on to his own hit television series, “Silver Spoons.” He was a teenager balancing fame, family and the pressure of going through adolescence in the public eye.
By the time Schroder was 17, he was ready for a change of pace. At 18 he experienced another career high with “Lonesome Dove.” Acting with the likes of Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Denzel Washington, Angelica Huston and Diane Lane, “Lonesome Dove,” some say, is the best western ever made.
While juggling a busy schedule, Schroder has kept the pace of his career going with projects like “Crimson Tide” with Denzel Washington, “Across the Tracks” with Brad Pitt, “Texas,” a miniseries with Benjamin Bratt and A&E’s “The Lost Battalion.” Schroder then joined the cast of “NYPD Blue” in 1998, proving once again his talent as an actor with depth and diversity.
In 2004, he made his feature film directorial debut with “Black Cloud,” a story inspired by a young boxer with big dreams. Schroder wrote, directed, acted in and produced the film, and is now independently distributing it. He also won the 2004 Country Music Association Best Music Video Award for his direction of “Whiskey Lullaby,” sung by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss. That video also won him the Video Director of the Year at the Country Music Television Music Awards in Nashville.
Rick and his wife Andrea live in Arizona along with their four children.
