This Week's Contestant
|Theme:||The Good Life|
There are so many things to think about while taping the show. The contestant coordinators and producers did a great job of preparing me and making me feel more comfortable, but when it was time to tape, I was all on my own! As a contestant, I had to: speak in a loud, clear voice, be quick to not waste valuable playing time, smile, cheer for the other contestants, clap (but while keeping my hands low because of the clapping sound in the microphone), spin the wheel ( which is VERY heavy and awkward), watch the used letter board, buy vowels, call logical letters, and solve the puzzles! I did very well and somehow solved most of the puzzles. I was sweating so much that, during the commercial breaks, the make-up artist had to keep putting ridiculous amounts of makeup on me to keep me from being too shiny. I was so nervous and excited while playing that I kept messing up. At one point, I called a letter without even spinning the wheel first.
When I watched previous shows at home, I always thought people were acting when they were surprised that they solved a prize puzzle. I thought, how could you forget that it is a prize puzzle? Well, with all of the other things to think about, and just trying to solve the puzzle, I did forget it was a prize puzzle, so I was genuinely surprised when Pat came over to tell me I had won a trip to Central America! The rounds seemed to go so fast, and before I knew it, Pat came over to tell me that I was going to the bonus round.
Before beginning the bonus round, some of the workers explained where I would stand, what Pat would say, and tried to remind me about playing strategies. I had to practice spinning the bonus round wheel (which is heavy, too). Pat had me introduce my family in the audience, my future sister-in-law, my sister, and her boyfriend. Then it was time to go! As soon as the category and letters appeared on the letter board, I KNEW the answer. I couldn't come up with enough consonants to call so I kept calling the same ones over and over. As soon as the timer started, I yelled out the answer, Anonymous Donor! Pat opened the card to reveal that I had won a Mercedes. My family ran over to me, and then over to the car and I jumped in! The cameraman was trying to direct us, and thinking he was with me, tried to get my sister's boyfriend to kiss me. I told him that my fiance was in England and the cameraman was trying to tell me to say something to my fiance but I couldn't figure out what he wanted me to do, so I have a confused look on my face the whole time the camera was on me while in the car.
Being on the Wheel of Fortune was probably the coolest thing I've ever done! It still doesn't seem real to me. We had a big viewing party at a local bar with lots of friends and family (and a few strangers, too). I plan to use the money I won to pay for my wedding, and my fiance and I will go on the trip I won to Central America as our honeymoon. Of course, I plan to drive my Mercedes everywhere I go. Thank you, Wheel of Fortune!
