POSTED 1-21
Between the bright lights and trying to remember everything that we had been told, there was too much going on; I couldn't focus. First toss-up: nothing. Second toss-up: nothing. The third puzzle went by and I didn't even have a chance to spin the wheel! This was not the way I had hoped to start off the game.
By the time the next puzzle came around I knew that I had to step it up. I knew the answer pretty early on but all that I could think about was how I needed to catch up to the other contestants if I was to have a chance at winning. I couldn't figure out why Pat seemed surprised when I kept spinning instead of solving. When I finally solved the puzzle, they announced that I had won a trip to New Orleans. "Oh my goodness," I thought, "It's a prize puzzle!!" I was so wrapped up in the puzzle that I completely forgot it was a prize puzzle! Looking back, I guess it was a good thing because it helped me make a much-needed comeback.
In the next puzzle, I landed on the Caribbean Vacation wedge during one of my first spins! In the same turn, I landed on the mystery wedge. Despite everything I knew about the odds of the game and that the Mystery Wedge is always a chance worth taking, I just could not give up the opportunity to go to the Caribbean! I passed on the Mystery Wedge and took another spin. Who would've guessed that I'd land on Mystery Wedge again!?! Twice in a row that must be some kind of sign! I decided to take the chance even though the stakes were higher this time around. I nervously turned it over; it was $10,000!!!! Not only did I just win $10,000 (and not lose my Caribbean trip), but this meant that the Mystery Wedge I had passed up on the last turn was Bankrupt! I think my childhood Wheel and Scrabble teammate, Papa, was looking down on me from heaven and helping me out.
I made it to the Bonus Round and just barely missed "Jump up and down." I would have won a Mazda Miata, but I can't complain because I went home with $32,000 in cash and prizes! Wheel of Fortune was an experience of a lifetime that I will never forget!
