This Week's Contestant
I casually said to my wife, "If you love me, you'll sign me up for this". Alison and I were watching the Wheel about a year ago -- I was getting every puzzle that night, just couldn't miss - she was pretty jealous, to say the least. I guess she loves me, for some reason, because she signed me up on www.wheeloffortune.com. Just once.
I got an e-mail in September inviting me to an Audition in Boston - "this has to be a joke" was my first thought. I called the number and it was the real deal - "You got to be kidding me" was my next reaction followed by high-pitched screaming and awkward dancing. I went to the audition and did pretty well. I made it to the end and the entire experience was a lot of fun. We were told that we'd get a letter within two weeks if we made it. I checked the mailbox every day like a kid trying to hide his bad report card - no letter. I thought "oh well, it was fun to audition at least", trying to swing a positive out of this.
Then, 18 1/2" days after the audition I came home to a letter on the counter. It showed up, no way, holy smokes. They tell you that you're in the contestant pool and the call will come sometime in the next 18 months seems like a long time to wait, but it didn't really matter, since I got the call the very next week. My sister Kalee lives in LA with her husband Dan and their handsome son Otto, so it was a great opportunity to spend time with them and have some local support for my big television debut.
Needless to say, I think they were pretty psyched to be a part of the whole experience. We're talking Wheel of Fortune' here, this is a huge deal. Pat Sajak, seriously I love Pat Sajek - this guy is my idol! The excitement that day cancelled out the nervousness. I was ready to play - bring on the puzzles Pat. Watch me spin on Thursday, January 5th!
