Lights, Camera, Action! Okay, they don't really say that pretty much some music starts and you see Pat walk out from behind the puzzle board and that's when you know they are filming. Honestly, I couldn't tell you what I was feeling when I first grabbed my buzzer and prepared for the first toss up puzzle. But, I can tell you how I felt afterwards, embarrassed! Starting out guessing the wrong puzzle right off the bat does little for your self confidence. But in my defense, I thought "floor mats" was a decent guess even Pat told me so.
The next toss up puzzle was "Vienna Sausage" and to tell you the truth I don't even know what that is. Apparently it is similar to Spam in the sausage world?? I was okay with not getting that one. Looking back, I feel like I should have felt discouraged with my slow start, but being up there is so much fun, winning or not. When I got my opportunity to spin the wheel and I landed on the Italy trip, I was determined to solve that puzzle. Before you start filming, the contestant coordinators tell you what trip will be on the wheel for your specific show. When I found out I had a chance to go to Italy, that's all I wanted to win from the show. Turns out I won a lot more than just a trip to Italy. I couldn't believe it it was like a Cinderella story. I just got into a zone and every puzzle I solved after that was just a blur...
When the bonus round time came around, you are asked who is with you in the audience. Since my trip was so last minute, I had one of my friends who went to Vegas with me and one of my friends from LA in the audience. My friend from LA brought one of his friends who I had never met before, so when they asked me everyone's name, I had to say that I didn't know one of them. The contestant coordinators shouted in front of everyone, "who is the guy she doesn't know?!" Everyone was laughing and saying that has never happened before. Yet again, another embarrassing moment on the Wheel, but hey I just won 2 trips and some cash...this time I wasn't sweating it.
When the final puzzle came up and I had only 2 letters on the board, I felt like I had no hope. I always guess the same few letters when I play the bonus round at home DMPA. Luckily, I stuck with tradition. I could tell the last word was "ahead" but couldn't figure out the first word. I just kept looking at the letter board that showed the remaining letters I had not guessed. Then I saw the letter K and I had it..."SKIP AHEAD!"
Wheel of Fortune was one of the best experiences I have had in my life. I never expected to win anything, let alone the bonus round! Being on the show has given me the opportunity to finally go travel around Europe for a month -- starting in Italy of course. If you ever get the chance, take my advice and get on Wheel of Fortune!
