This Week's Contestant
|Hometown:||San Diego, CA|
It's finally game time! The day I've been waiting for, for almost 20 years now! I'm still in utterly shock that I'm standing on a platform on the set of my favorite game show, Wheel of Fortune!!! I had been selected for "Hawaii Week"! It couldn't get any better than that. Now, only if I can shake these nerves off before we went on air would be a lifesaver! The contestant coordinators did tell us to keep smiling, but I'm sure they didn't mean with a silly half smile that was glued to my face for the entire show. I guess it was better to smile than to frown in which I did have a lot to smile about.
I will say it would have been great to meet Pat Sajak before we went on air. At least, that's what I thought would happen so I wouldn't be "star-struck" once he was right in front of me. That was wishful thinking. After all these years of watching the show, I really thought meeting Pat on air was an act it's definitely not! He had asked about my son and I remember replying, "Yes, I have a very happy and energetic 7 year old". I didn't even say my son's name. I felt so bad. It was happening again... My nerves were taking over and I was stumbling over this simple introduction! We hadn't even started the actual game yet!
Luckily for me, he moved on to the next contestant and after that it was toss- up time! I grabbed my buzzer and I thought I was ready. I definitely wasn't! I stood there in total shock. Hopefully I didn't do this on the next Toss-Up. And sure enough, I was stuck again. The other contestants were solving these puzzles left and right. It was a breeze to them! During commercial break, we were given water and the make-up artist patted our faces down and touched us up. It was like we were in a boxing ring for the championship. It was pretty similar. I mean, we were all there to win. Regardless if we were all backstage getting to know each other and exchanging email addresses, this was still a competition. At that point, I started realizing I needed to get it together quick. I came here to win! And with that thought in mind, I solved my first puzzle and another one after that! I also landed on the $1 million dollar wedge! I couldn't believe it! I was determined to make it to the Bonus Round.
The prize puzzle was really what I had been waiting for. There's no worse feeling than knowing a puzzle when it's not your turn. As soon as the other contestant couldn't solve, I had to solve it immediately. It was, "WASHED UP SHELLS ON THE BEACH"! I just won a trip to Costa Rica!!! Are you kidding me??? I've never even been out of the country! This was the best feeling in the world. Unfortunately, I didn't make it on to the bonus round, but it didn't matter to me. I just won a trip and some cash! I didn't even know how much I won until the very end of the show because I was just too excited about finally solving the puzzles! This is by far the best experience I have ever had and I'm so thankful for the staff and giving me the opportunity to audition, play and win! Friends and family still ask me if I'd do it all over again...My answer: IN A HEARTBEAT! Thank you, Wheel of Fortune!
