This Week's Contestant
POSTED on 4-27
When taping day was finally here, I couldn't believe it!!
I woke up pretty excited but definitely feeling the nerves. The day starts pretty early for the contestants. After I got dressed, I headed downstairs to the lobby where I found a bunch of other contestants already waiting for the shuttle. I was thinking I might see a familiar face or two from my audition, but I didn't. Every contestant that day was a military spouse so we all started talking and getting to know each other.
Once we arrived the Contestant Team happily greeted us and led us to the contestant waiting room. From there we went over the show, the commercial, and we signed lots of contracts. My nerves were more at ease once I was told I was taping the last show. I personally didn't mind it at all, because that meant I got to watch all the other tapings. I will say that I did feel bad for my cheering squad, aka my hubby and mom because they had to wait until the last taping to see my debut!
After everyone got their make-up done we went on set and got an opportunity to spin the Wheel. Boy is the wheel heavy! The first time I spun it...I couldn't get it to spin all the way around. So they had me go again...this time with a little more umph in it! It landed me on Bankrupt! Oh great...let's hope that doesn't happen during the show. While everyone was taking turns spinning the wheel...Vanna walked in! She welcomed us and gave her best wishes on the show.
The first three tapings went by and then we had lunch, which was provided to the contestants. Once the fifth taping began I started getting nervous again. I literally was only minutes from meeting Pat and from playing the game. My makeup was touched up one last time before I walked on the stage.
The show starts, out comes Pat and right away its toss-up time! I grabbed my clicker and I thought I was ready. I definitely wasn't! I stood there in total shock. Hopefully I didn't do this on the next toss-up. And sure enough, I was beat to the punch. Oh Man! Normally in the comfort of my living room, I answer Toss-Ups easily.
As the game goes on I sure wasn't having much luck on the wheel. Boy did I land on plenty of Bankrupts. There's no worse feeling than knowing the puzzle when it's not your turn.
Finally we go to the third Toss-Up and I get it!! Whoo hoo!! Game on! We then ran out of time, so Pat spun the wheel and it landed on $500. We each had a chance to call out a letter but no one solved the puzzle yet. I got to call another letter and I solved it!! Not only did I solve the puzzle, I won the show by $300. I didn't even realize it at first. I couldn't believe it!
One last break and it's the Bonus Round! Before I spun the mini wheel, I got to introduce my mom, Susan and my husband, Sam. My puzzle was a phrase...which I have to say I usually am not good at solving phrases. Well...just so happened I was good that day! Pat opens the envelope and out comes confetti! This was a total dream come true!
Being a contestant on the show was an experience of a lifetime and I will cherish the memories. Thank you Wheel of Fortune for giving me this opportunity and to my family for being a part of this special day!
