RIPE BANANAS

| | Comments (10)

Do you throw away your ripe bananas? Please don't do that! There are several things you can do with them.

- Make banana bread or muffins (see recipe below). The riper the banana, the sweeter the bread will be. The skin can almost be black and you can still use them to make the bread.

- Make banana pancakes. Squish up a banana or two with a fork or potato masher until it's almost liquefied. Stir it into your pancake mix.

- For a great snack, peel the banana, cut it in half, put it on the end of a popsicle stick and freeze it. Pretty soon, you have banana popsicles! These are perfect for a healthy dessert or after-school snack.

- Make baby food with a ripe banana. Mash it up really well and feed your baby. It's better than bananas from a jar!

BANANA BREAD

1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup rolled oats / oatmeal
1/3 cup sugar (5 Tbs.)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup butter or shortening (1/2 stick)
2 eggs
1/3 cup milk or buttermilk
4 or 5 soft, ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Combine flour, oats, & baking soda and set aside. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs. Stir in bananas and milk. Add dry ingredients, stirring only until they are moistened. Put into 9 x 5 x 3 greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees for at least one hour.

Vanna, did you know that you can also freeze bananas? I live alone,&love banana bread, You can put it in the freezer whole, and save until you have enough to make your bread .I love your show. Keep hopeing to see my Number . Marge

Your banana bread recipe sounds a LOT better
than the ones I've tried before....they ususlly
only call for 2 or 3 bananas, and they never
taste "banana-y" enough for me! Your recipe
calls for 4 or 5 bananas....now, THAT's more
like it! Can't wait to try it as soon as
possible!

Your kids are lucky! You must be a really good
cook! Like my mom was...some of your recipes
remind me of hers...good, hearty stuff that's
not super-hard to make. Excellent job!

the receips are great--thank you vanna

I have a bunch of frozen bananas b/c I just can't throw them out! I will try the recipe and get back to you!

Our grandaughter Audra always played Vanna every night along with you. She's twenty three now, and work's at a bank, but still our beautiful Vanna.I'm anxious to try your recipes. Thanks for all your info.

Whenever we have over ripe bananas, we put them in a blender with some milk and whip up a delecious milk shake.

Red is favorite shoe color. It was great to meet you in Seattle '04'. You thru out the first pitch with your son. I was the crazy Twins fan at the elevator when you were doing your meet and greets, it was so great to see you when the elevator opened. Have always watched and dreamed of being on with Pat and Vanna. Seeing the Wheel mobile and not getting in for the try out was close as I came. Then to see you at the game my brother-inlaw still asks me how's Vanna.

Bananas can be kept in the fridge for a long time The skins turn but when you peel the banana it's really good cold. Better flavor. especially with milk and cereal.
