When I first started the show in 1982, I "turned" the letters. We would have to stop between each round so they could change out the plastic letters by hand, to make the new puzzle. Because we taped five shows a day, it added a lot of time to our tape day. In 1997, they switched to a new puzzle board that was completely computerized with TV monitors as the letters and I "touched" them instead of turning them. Not only does it save tons of time, it's made my job even more fun!

I like the new puzzle board better. The new board has better functions than the old board. Today the new board looks more professional.
Dear Vana, My husband and I love wheel, we watch it every evening. Hopefully my number will come up. I like the fact that our names are addeded on the screen. Thanks for doing a fantastic job all of these years.
Sincerely,
Rita Spaltholz
I love show and i look at every day
Vanna,
This is a wonderful insight behind the history of the 'turning' letters. Thank you so much for sharing.
By the way, your blog set up is beautiful just as you are! :)
I'm sure I'll be back to read more.
Thanks again, Becky (aka Lady Harley) :)
Vanna I pretend to touch the letters on my school wall at free time and I touch them just as well as you Vanna! I watched the old wheel of fortune at 10 o clock in the morning and WOW you did a wonderful job! I watch the wheel at 7 o clock every day and I always look forword to seeing you on wheel of fortune Vanna!

i've often wondered, but i never had the opportunity to ask. anyway, do you know what has happened to the old puzzleboard and who has possession of it over the years since it's been retired[maybe even some pictures and video of where it is if you have any of that]? and has anyone put any thought into making some sort of effect on the video puzzleboard where it would give the illusion to look like the letters were being turned as they were revealed in a puzzle. i think would be kind of cool to see that. if only, for a retro week. anyway i think i've rambled on for a bit too long. best wishes and good luck to you and everyone else on the show!

On the final spin of the wheel, the amount should be the highest amount of the three and that person should go first.

Hi there,
I also remember the days of old with the wheel.. How the contestants purchased furniture and stuff. My that was a different time wasn't it?
Vanna...I also remember seeing you with Niva and John Gibson in Lewiston...ooh that was a while ago. Do you remember?

You mentioned that way back when you taped 5 shows a day, how many do you tape in a day now?
How long does it take to tape one show?
I read several years ago in a magazine that you work about 37 days a year, is that true?
