My Christmas Tradition

| | Comments (7)
vanna_Christmas_morning.jpg Every year on Christmas morning, my brother and I would wake each other up before going into the family room where Santa had been while we slept. We always went in together to share that special moment of surprise when we saw what Santa had brought us! He never wrapped our gifts. They would be just lying out neatly displayed.

Today, I share the same tradition with my children. When they wake up on Christmas morning, they have to wake me so that we all can go downstairs together to see what Santa left. I lead the way with video camera in hand!

The above photo was taken on Christmas Eve 1968. We slept near the Christmas tree.

What are some of your holiday traditions?

Thanks for the insights into your growing up years and your handy household tips and hints.

My family and I attend church on Christmas eve, then come home and enjoy goodies. On Christmas a.m. we open stockings, then have a brunch, and then open gifts.
Have a blessed Christmas with your loved ones.

Our Christmas was similar to yours. Part of our presents were wrapped, some were not. We had to wake mom and dad up to go see the presents. It was by choice tho' because we were so excited that Santa actually came into our house!! I remember it being so hard to go to sleep on Christmas eve. Were you the same way? We still carry on the traditions from back then. Christmas morning we all open gifts. The wrapping paper flies and the kids are up and down like jack-in-the-boxes showing off their new gifts. While the kids play and the men go back to sleep, the women gather in the kitchen and fix a wonderful breakfast, drink hot tea and catch up on each other's lives. After breakfast we start on the traditional fare from my grandmother's recipes for bread dressing and mac and cheese to the turkey and all that goes with it are readied for the rest of the crowd that will soon be there. All in all, it's a wonderful day spent with family and friends. I only wish my son and his wife and 3 little ones could be here. It would make it complete. They're out in Salt Lake and can't make it here this year. We're all hoping for next year tho'. Even as it is, he's going to be a phone call away so we will be together anyway. I am hoping you and your family have a blessed Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

On Christmas eve, mom and I have dinner with Nana. I open a few gifts. On Christmas morning (This is my favorite part) I go downstairs and see what Santa gave me. In the evening, I have dinner with the family and watch funny movies.

Merry Christmas Vanna. I can't wait to have more Wheel of Fortune fun in the next decade.

Vanna how was christmas for you this year?

When I was 15 years old, (a long time ago), my Mom got a stereo for me for Christmas. I was so excited. Now I'm looking at the picture of you and your brother sleeping on the floor and I see off to the right what looks to be a stereo just like the one I received that year. It caught my attention because I had never seen another one like it. I still have it except for the legs. Somewhere over the years of moving, they got lost.
Thanks for taking time to share with your fans. Blessings to you and your family in 2010 and beyond.

Hi Vanna. The main Christmas tradition that I have is attending church and being a very active part in it with family and friends. I never forget the true meaning of Christmas.
