Is Vanna my real name? Yes it is. It is not short for Vanessa or any other name. My mother named me after my grandmother's next door neighbor. Her name was Vana. My mother added the extra "N".
Growing up, I only knew of one other Vanna. Her name was Vana Knight. We went to the same school. Kind of strange, huh? I remember in school when they would call one of us to the office over the loud speaker, both of us would go because we didn't know if they were saying Vanna White or Vana Knight! They sounded alike over the intercom.
Having an unusual name, everyone had a hard time pronouncing it right before I was on TV. Thanks to Charlie O'Donnell announcing me by name at the top of each episode of Wheel of Fortune, people have learned how to say it correctly!
Also, being on TV, some people have named their children, Vanna, after me. (What an honor! Thank you.) On a funnier note, someone also named their white llama after me!

Didn't Pat ask about your name at your audition? I might be wrong, but I think you told him that it was a "family" name. I seem to remember that "Vanna" stuck in my memory all those years ago, too... (LOL) It's a unique name for a unique lady. ;-)

Talk about an odd name, people can't pronounce! Try Wydner. It's simple, when you think of Snyder.It is said as wide-ner. I also crochet. I wish they had patterns of some of the gowns you wear, to make to dolls.
Several years ago my brother attended a church in San Franciso, and they often would report in their newsletter that Vanna White was taking the youth to this or that even.
When I visited him, I asked him if that was the real Vanna White.
He replied, Our church had two vans - a "Vanna White" and a "Vanna Green."
