FINN'S
WORLD
I didn't grow up
wanting to teach. I wanted to pitch for the Boston Red Sox. Okay - so you dream
big when you're in little league ... but Mr. Myers, my eighth grade English
teacher, wanted me to open my mind outside of the field ... to the all-stars
of literature. And not only did he introduce me to Shakespeare, Nietzsche, Faulkner,
etc ... he gave me the confidence that I could do more with my life than just
throw a curve ball. And he was right.
Once I got to
high school - at the ripe age of fourteen, I discovered two things - one,
I sucked at baseball, and two, a teacher can change your life. So as I stand
before my classes each day, I can only hope to give my students a fraction
of the wisdom and inspiration that Mr. Myers gave to me.
