Scout Calhoun Welcome To Calhoun Hall
By Scout Calhoun

Okay. You've all been over to Calhoun Hall. I suppose I'll try to clear this up for one last time, just in case there is someone left on campus who hasn't asked if it's named after me. No. Calhoun Hall is not named after me. Calhoun Hall is named after my father, who also attended Rawley and was part of the illustrious crew team almost twenty years ago. When I was in my defiant stage at the mere age of ten, I protested to my father about having to attend Rawley, just because "my father attended Rawley, and his father attended Rawley, and my cousins and all their cousins attended Rawley" and so on. Dad got nervous and thought it would be a good idea to forever solidify the Calhoun legacy by donating a generous enough amount of money to the school, just in case I thought better of attending high school somewhere other than here. All in all, after looking at what Rawley life is really like, of course I made my decision to attend here. My aspirations for greatness are now bestowed upon the once and forever great Rawley Academy.

Now I'm here. Making my own mark on the hallowed grounds of the Rawley campus where "among you today there just might be the next Bill Gates, Albert Einstein or even a Steven Speilberg" according to Dean Fleming. I can't help but think about how we are going to turn out when I look around at the rest of the guys in my class. It's kind of exciting. So, even though I was not set on attending Rawley academy, just because it had been decreed from my inception as my birthright to do so, I can actually say that I'm glad to be here.

So far a few of the bright spots have been the Crew Team, Mr. Finn's History and Literature class, taking over the illustrious job as the Editor of the Rawley Rag (go read my Letter from the Editor when you're done here), and last but not least, my roommate, Will Krudski. Not to mention, a certain girl from the town who has caught my eye. A diamond in the rough is probably the most understated phrase I've ever heard.
