The Getaway People, originally from Stavanger, Norway, came to New York in 1998 to support their self-titled debut release on COLUMBIA RECORDS, which drew much critical acclaim for the band's distinctive lo-fi hook-filled, soulful, funky sound. For the past year and a half the band has toured the U.S. and Europe, developing an incredibly strong reputation as a live act and being invited to tour with the DAVE MATHEWS BAND, BARE NAKED LADIES, SEMISONIC, GUSTER AND H.O.R.DE. They've had songs featured in WB's hit series "Felicity", on the "Muppets From Space" soundtrack, and episodes of MTV's "Real World" and "Road Rules". Nominated as "Best New Artist" at the 1999 Norwegian Grammy's, the band then headed back into the studio at the end of the year.

The Getaway People recently completed their follow-up album, Turnpike Diaries, which features guest performances by RAHZEL from THE ROOTS, BOYD TINSLEY from the DAVE MATTHEWS BAND and DARYL JENIFER from BAD BRAINS. Co-producers on the record include Nick Sansano (Public Enemy, sonic Youth) and Dante Ross (Everlast, Korn). Check out key tracks: "Six Pacs", "There She Goes", "Deceived By An Angel", and "Come Love Me".

There already seems to be a major buzz forming around the new record.... In the past month alone, The Getaway People were asked to headline the official opening party for SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL 2000 and play the NFL's PRE-SUPERBOWL party in Atlanta. With their record release set FOR JUNE 6TH look for the band to spend the next year touring....everywhere!!!

Raves (live & otherwise) have included:

"The Getaway People are set to break bad with this cool, crisp track from their upcoming 'Turnpike Diaries' - and the theme to the new WB television show 'Young Americans' due this summer ... Radio will find a cool secret weapon record with this fun summer song. Should be investigated promptly."
–– CHUCK TAYLOR - BILLBOARD MAGAZINE - JUNE 2000

"The Getaway People...might be as big as the Temptations if they were from Detroit, circa 1970, instead of from Stavanger, Norway, ... there was a timeless quality to sharp, ultra-funky pop tunes such as 'She Gave Me Love,' and 'Chocolate.'"
–– DALLAS MORNING NEWS

"Norway's Getaway People greatly impressed in its opening set, which mixed Beck-ish funk-pop with a touch of the deadpan humor Cake excels at ..."
–– ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

"4 stars"- "... the miracle of this record is its utterly simple infectiousness."
–– PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY

"...G. Love with more pop smarts and a Beck-like propensity for loops and sound collages. There's also a bit of Gil Scott-Heron flava ..."
–– MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE

"...five guys from Norway who roar like a full-tilt funk band, but their self-titled debut still maintains an aurally clipped appeal, like Jamiroquai with a heavy Beck fixation."
–– TIME OUT NY

"3 & 1/2 stars"–"... It's rare when an ambitions band, intent on mixing things up as they have never been mixed before, gets the balance right the first time around, but the Getaway People have done just that."
–– NEWARK STAR-LEDGER
