• Nicole Brown Named President of TriStar Pictures

    CULVER CITY, CA -- October 13, 2020 -- Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) announced today that Nicole Brown has been promoted to president of TriStar Pictures, extending her contract with the studio to continue oversight of the specialty label. Last year, Brown was appointed to head TriStar Pictures as executive vice president. She will continue to report to Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, and oversee all of TriStar’s film development and production.

  • Spike Jonze Joins Sony Pictures Classics’ Nine Days As Executive Producer

    NEW YORK (October 12, 2020) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today Spike Jonze has joined as Executive Producer of Edson Oda's NINE DAYS and the film will be released in theaters early 2021. Additionally, Sony Pictures Classics has also acquired the rights in Asia, Israel, Turkey and the rest of Europe, making it a worldwide Sony Pictures Classics release. The film will next be seen in the Hamptons Film Festival and AFI, among others.

    Culver City, CA – September 29, 2020 – Blumhouse Productions and Columbia Pictures announced today that The Craft: Legacy will be available widely on PVOD this Halloween with leading digital retailers for a 48-hour rental period at a suggested retail price of $19.99, and for premium digital purchase at a suggested retail price of $24.99.     NEW YORK (September 23, 2020) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all rights in North America, Latin America, India, Pan Asia (excluding Japan), the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Turkey, and airlines and ships worldwide to MOTHERING SUNDAY directed by Eva Husson (GIRLS OF THE SUN) and starring Odessa Young (ASSASSINATION NATION), Josh O’Connor (THE CROWN), Colin Firth (THE KING’S SPEECH), Olivia Colman (THE FAVOURITE) and Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (GANGS OF LONDON).

    NEW YORK (September 22, 2020) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all rights in the U.S., Latin America, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe (Ex. Poland, the Czech Republic and the former Yugoslavia), Russia/CIS, Greece, Turkey, Portugal, South Africa, South East Asia (Ex. Japan and China) and India to THE DUKE, following its critically acclaimed World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Directed by Roger Michell (NOTTING HILL) from a script by Richard Bean and Clive Coleman, the dramedy stars Oscar winners Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren.

    NEW YORK (September 14, 2020) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they will release Florian Zeller’s THE FATHER in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on December 18, 2020, followed by most major markets on Christmas Day. The film was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics ahead of its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and can next be seen at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival.

  • Jamie Foxx Signs Overall Deal With Sony Pictures Entertainment Alongside Producing Partner Datari Turner

    Culver City, CA – September 9, 2020 -- Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx and his producing partner, Datari Turner, have signed an overall deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment to develop and produce feature films. The first project in development that Foxx and Turner are producing for the studio under their new deal is an untitled action thriller written by Juel Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier, which Foxx is also set to star in.

  • Sony Pictures Classics Acquires Luca Guadagnino’s Salvatore: Shoemaker Of Dreams Ahead Of Venice World Premiere

    NEW YORK (September 2, 2020) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all rights worldwide, excluding Italy, to Luca Guadagnino’s SALVATORE: SHOEMAKER OF DREAMS, a documentary on the life of fashion icon Salvatore Ferragamo. Written by Dana Thomas with narration by Michael Stuhlbarg, the documentary will make its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where it is screening out of competition, on September 6, 2020. It is produced by Francesco Melzi d’Eril and Gabriele Moratti of MeMo Films, and executive produced by Stella Savino.  

  • Sony Pictures Classics To Release  Michael Dweck And Gregory Kershaw’s  The Truffle Hunters In Theaters December 25

    NEW YORK (August 28, 2020) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they will release Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw’s THE TRUFFLE HUNTERS in theaters on December 25, 2020. It was announced this week that the documentary will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival, capping off a string of previous acceptances into the Cannes, Telluride, and New York Film Festivals. The documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to excellent reviews earlier this year, where it was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics.

    NEW YORK (August 20, 2020) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that Azazel Jacobs’ FRENCH EXIT will be released in theaters on February 12, 2021. This follows the news that the film will make its world premiere as the Closing Night feature at the 2020 New York Film Festival.
