Sony Pictures International Productions Signs Multi-Picture Development Deal With Eduardo Cisneros And Jason Shuman

Los Angeles, Calif. - October 21, 2016 - Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP) today announced that award-winning filmmakers Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman have signed a multi-picture development deal with Sony Pictures International Productions.

Under the deal, Mexico and LA-based Cisneros and Shuman will write and produce three new feature films with SPIP. The partnership furthers Sony Pictures' commitment to broaden its global presence and its support of local language productions.

"It is an ongoing priority for Sony Pictures International Productions to serve our Spanish-speaking audiences in Latin America and here in the United States," said Laine Kline, EVP Business Affairs and Operations. "Eduardo and Jason have an exceptional track record for capturing these important communities and beyond."

In a joint statement, Cisneros and Shuman said, "Sony Pictures International Productions has an exciting and inspired vision of the international space, and we look forward to making great movies with them and expanding the Spanish-language markets worldwide."

With over a decade working in the Latin American film and television industry, Cisneros is one of the most successful writer/producers working in the Latin American film industry. His crossover hit feature film, Instructions Not Included, which was released by Lionsgate in the U.S., grossed over $100M in worldwide box office and is the most successful Latin American film in history. Cisneros is the co-creator of numerous hit comedy series, such as Familia P. Luche and XHDRBZ. He is also one of the founding members of 3Pas Studios, where he's been working with Eugenio Derbez, developing a wide range of feature and TV projects, including Derbez's follow up to Instructions, a remake of the 2011 Argentine movie Un Cuento Chino. As part of an overall deal with Universal TV, Cisneros teamed with Emmy Nominee Aseem Batra (Not Safe for Work, Scrubs) and developed a single-camera comedy Don't Judge Me for ABC. Cisneros is represented by Valor Entertainment Group, WME, and Ziffren Brittenham.

In 2014, Cisneros partnered with Jason Shuman to become the writing/producing team of Cisneros & Shuman, where they've written the FOX feature comedy "Upgrade" and the 20th Television/FBC pilot "Star-crossed," among other projects. Previously, Shuman has over 20 produced films to his credits, such as Role Models, Lone Survivor, and the upcoming Rebel In The Rye. He is represented by CAA and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.

Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP) is the local language production and distribution arm of Sony Pictures. Its latest Mexican film, El Jeremías -- a family comedy directed by Anwar Safa and produced by Monica Lozano, who produced Instructions Not Included -- will have a limited theatrical release in the U.S. today, October 21st, and then in Mexico on October 28th.
