CULVER CITY, Calif., June 27, 2019 – On Wednesday, June 26, an 80-foot long Spider-Man inflatable swung over the red carpet as Sony Pictures Entertainment took over Hollywood Blvd. to celebrate the world premiere of Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man™: Far from Home at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California. The event attracted 1,500 guests as well as thousands of fans who lined the streets to cheer on the film’s cast and filmmakers.

 

CULVER CITY, June 7, 2019 – To coincide with the 35th anniversary of Ghostbusters, first released in U.S. theaters on June 8, 1984, Sony Pictures is launching “Ghostbusters 35th,” a year-long celebration of the iconic multi-media franchise, it was announced today by Jeffrey Godsick, EVP of Brand Strategy and Global Partnerships for Sony Pictures. The event represents a collaboration between several Sony Corporation divisions and will lead up to the newest installment in the film series to be released in theaters in 2020.

[CULVER CITY, CA, June 7, 2019] Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) today announced the renaming of one of the largest theaters on its Culver City lot to honor Academy and Emmy Award-nominated director, screenwriter and producer John Singleton, who passed away in April.

NEW YORK – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all rights worldwide, excluding France and German speaking Europe, to Michael Angelo Covino’s THE CLIMB. The film premiered at the 2019 Cannes International Film Festival.

Directed by Covino and written by Covino and Kyle Marvin, the film stars Covino, Marvin, Gayle Rankin, Talia Balsam, George Wendt, and Judith Godrèche.

Culver City, CA [May 15, 2019] – It was announced today that Entertainment One (eOne) has come aboard TriStar Pictures’ Happiest Season and will co-finance the holiday-season romantic comedy.
 
Additionally, TriStar Pictures has set a U.S. release date of November 20, 2020. eOne will handle distribution for the United Kingdom and Canada with TriStar Pictures distributing in all other territories.
 

NEW YORK (May 14, 2019) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all rights in North America, France, India and several other Asian countries to Bart Freundlich’s AFTER THE WEDDING. The film is an adaptation of Susanne Bier’s Academy Award® nominated Danish film of the same title and screened as an opening night selection at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
 

NEW YORK (May 1, 2019) – Sony Pictures Classics today announced that they will release Academy Award-winner Pedro Almodóvar’s newest film, PAIN & GLORY, in the United States on October 4, 2019. The film will screen In Competition at the Cannes International Film Festival. 
 

NEW YORK (April 30, 2019) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all rights in North America, Eastern Europe (including CIS), Scandinavia, the Middle East, South Africa, Spain, India and for worldwide airlines to Ira Sachs’ FRANKIE. The film is premiering In Competition at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.

[Culver City, CA – April 29, 2019] Sony Pictures Television (SPT) today announced an expansive five-year overall television deal with Academy Award-winning and Emmy-nominated writers, directors, and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The pair land at Sony after a highly competitive situation with multiple studios vying for the in-demand team. Under the exclusive new deal, Lord and Miller will develop live-action and animated series in both comedy and drama.

CULVER CITY, CA – April 9, 2019 – Sony Pictures’ genre label is forging a partnership with Ground Control to open the Screen Gems’ Horror Lab, an initiative that will focus on the development and production of horror genre proof-of-concepts. The program will collaborate with up-and-coming filmmakers to produce horror shorts with the primary goal of developing this new, original content into feature films. Scott Glassgold’s Ground Control will serve as producer on the proof-of-concepts and prospective feature adaptations.
