CULVER CITY, CA, November 2, 2016 - Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group today announced that Hannah Minghella, president of TriStar Pictures, has renewed her contract with the studio.

Since Minghella was named president of the label in August of 2015, TriStar has been an active buyer of acclaimed literary properties and filmmaker-driven projects.

CULVER CITY, Calif., November 1, 2016 - Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that the studio is launching a China Writers Initiative in which emerging and established writers from China will be hosted by the studio. Through the initiative, writers from China will meet with established Hollywood film and television executives and screenwriters to exchange and collaborate on ideas both for Hollywood films as well as Hollywood Chinese co-productions to promote and enhance better mutual understanding.

NEW YORK (NOVEMBER 1, 2016) - Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired the North American and Latin American rights to Academy Award® winning filmmaker Michael Haneke's HAPPY END. Written and directed by Haneke, the French production wrapped in late August.

Los Angeles, Calif. - October 21, 2016 - Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP) today announced that award-winning filmmakers Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman have signed a multi-picture development deal with Sony Pictures International Productions.

Under the deal, Mexico and LA-based Cisneros and Shuman will write and produce three new feature films with SPIP. The partnership furthers Sony Pictures' commitment to broaden its global presence and its support of local language productions.

NEW YORK (October 5, 2016) - Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired North American rights to Academy Award® winner Taylor Hackford's comedy, THE COMEDIAN. Written by Art Linson, THE COMEDIAN stars Academy Award® winner Robert De Niro, Leslie Mann, Edie Falco, Harvey Keitel, Danny DeVito, Patti LuPone and Veronica Ferres. The film will have an awards qualifying run in 2016 and open officially in 2017.

CULVER CITY, Calif., and LONDON, UK, September 22, 2016 - Columbia Pictures has teamed up with Frederick Warne & Co., part of Penguin Random House UK, for Peter Rabbit™, a new live-action/CG motion picture based on the internationally beloved series of books written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter, whose 150^th anniversary is being celebrated this year.

NEW YORK (September 22, 2016) - Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all rights in the US, Latin America, Asia (excluding Japan), Eastern Europe, Portugal and South Africa to Paolo Virzì's THE LEISURE SEEKER.

September 20, 2016 - CULVER CITY, CA - Sony Pictures' virtual reality (VR) group and Madison Wells Media's Reality One today announced a partnership to develop a slate of VR content.

Under the terms of the deal, Reality One will partner with Sony Pictures' VR group to produce and finance new VR experiences based on the studio's films and franchises as well as original intellectual property. Global distribution of VR content will be managed by Sony Pictures, starting later this year.
