SONY PICTURES CLASSICS TO RELEASE REBECCA ZLOTOWSKI’S ‘A PRIVATE LIFE,’ STARRING JODIE FOSTER, ON JANUARY 16, 2026.

A PRIVATE LIFE will receive a one-week qualifying run starting December 5th 

The film will screen next at the Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival 

NEW YORK, NY (September 3, 2025) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they will release A PRIVATE LIFE from director Rebecca Zlotowski on January 16th, 2026, with a one-week qualifying run starting December 5th. The film had its world debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, followed by a US premiere at the recent Telluride Film Festival. It is set to screen as a Gala presentation at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, where star Jodie Foster will be honored with a TIFF Tribute Award, as well as in the Spotlight section at the New York Film Festival and at the opening night of the American French Film Festival in Los Angeles. 

A PRIVATE LIFE stars Jodie Foster, Virginie Efira, Daniel Auteuil, Matthieu Amalric, Vincent Lacoste & Luana Bajrami and is produced by Frederic Jouve & Marie Lecoq of Les Films Velvet. 

A PRIVATE LIFE is a frisky, feminine, film noir about psychoanalysis and many other things…Renowned psychiatrist Lilian Steiner (Foster in a kinetic performance) is deeply troubled by the sudden death of one of her patients. Convinced that it was murder, she decides to investigate.
